The Process

Before we begin a project, our experts inspect the area for spot and stain treatments as well as discuss with you any specific concerns or questions you may have about your flooring or furniture.  Then we get to work!

First step to any job is to remove any and all dry soil. The IICRC states that 79% of all soil in carpet is dry soil. We thoroughly vacuum the areas to ensure as much of that soil is removed before our deep cleaning begins.

We use a technique called hot water extraction, which is a very deep cleaning method good for all carpet types and furniture. Our trained carpet cleaning experts will apply various solutions and allow adequate dwell time to break down dirt and grime (or even that full glass of wine). Next, we will agitate the fibers to fully encase any and all soil tucked deep within the carpet or furniture. Finally, our technicians will use a van-mounted cleaning machine that ‘fires’ near boiling water into the fibers and simultaneously extracts the solution and the hot water with one ‘clean sweep’.

Drying is key! Last but not least is our commitment to drying. When finished cleaning, leaving your carpet or furniture wet could be the worst possible mistake. Damp or wet carpet can cause unnecessary odors, wicking of previous staining or odors, and possibly even mildew if left damp or wet long enough. We use some of the largest, most effective air movers known to man. Large air-movers specifically designed for carpets, blows air in a 360 degree pattern at 40mph, drying a 452 sq. ft. area sometimes in just minutes! “Clean it good and leave it dry” is our goal for every job!

The Benefits

Do you know what the largest air filter is in your house? Answer: your carpet!

Because your carpet traps and filters all of the allergens and irritants from the air, regular carpet and upholstery cleaning can improve your indoor air quality. A good practice would be to professionally clean your carpets every 12 months. However, heavy use or build-up of soil might even require more often. Letting your carpets get completely saturated with soil is a good way to forever damage the carpet and loose the beautiful flooring it once was.

Professionally cleaned carpets look better, last longer, and are healthier for your family. With the ever-increasing costs of new carpet and labor for installation, it only makes sense to protect your investment. Regular carpet cleaning can even double the life of your carpet!

Carpet Protectors

I thought you would never ask! When good carpet leaves the mill and gets ready to be put into your house, it has a protector on it already. But like all good things, it doesn’t last! This application of carpet protector helps reduce staining like those unpleasant spots of cool-aid and blue-raspberry popsicles spilled over the summer, and also helps reduce soil build-up and oils where heaviest traffic is present.

Ask our technician for a demonstration and you will see just how effective these carpet protectors are at wicking away stains from your carpet fibers and into your clean-up rag. Great for:

  • Kids stains (let’s be honest, if you have kids, you hear me loud and clear on this one!)
  • Holiday stains (if you have ever had a pile of cranberry sauce on your carpet, you are right with me on this one too!)
  • Traffic lanes in hallways and entryways (if everyone in the whole world took their shoes off when they came inside…wait, that’s not going to happen!)
  • Upholstery protection (not eating in the living room is certainly a good rule to have, but just doesn’t every seem to hold up past the first week of that couch being new!)
  • Pet accidents (now these can be bad, no doubt, but a protector will make it that much easier to clean up, for sure!)
  • Spills and stains (just your everyday spills that pile up one after another, with a protector, each little one will clean up instead of pile-up on you!)
  • Like a Star Wars force field around your carpet and furniture (well, maybe not quite that impenetrable, but you catch my drift!)

Now that is an excellent question! That is almost the best part. This type of protection can be done by our carpet cleaning technician almost without any advance notice. If you hear about it from him or her, or you see it on our website, either way, we can apply our most advanced carpet protectors immediately after our carpet cleaning processes.

  1. Restore like-new protection your carpet came with initially
  2. Resist oil, cosmetics, spills, and soil, accidentally left by guests or family
  3. Penetrate deep inside of your carpet or upholstery fibers to resist staining
  4. Repel dry soils making vacuuming like a super-hero cleaning tool
  5. Protect your carpet & upholstery from, well, just about anything!

This stuff isn’t free. Not to come off as ‘shifty-salesman’, but I would say to start to grasp the value of this simple stain protection, we should first consider what your carpet cost in the first place! After you have that round-about number in your head, let’s compare that to just how small this protection will cost you. When added to a regular carpet cleaning invoice from Boston Cleaning & Restoration, you are talking pennies per sq.ft. For exact discounts and per sq.ft. pricing, please ask our technician or our office staff and they will let you know just how inexpensive this stain protection really is!

Odor removal is a bit of art mixed with a bit of science. When executed properly by our certified technicians, can bring a bad situation back to life!  Removing pet or smoke odors are common and certainly manageable, but can be tricky and involve more than just treatment to flooring or furniture.  Sometimes even walls and ceilings need to be sealed with special solutions, primers, and paints. Sometimes light fixtures, drapes and curtains, or other fixtures and furniture in a room will need to be treated or even removed for complete elimination of the odor.

Techniques

Seems simple right? But identifying the direct source of the odor should be your first step. From there, eliminating the source of the malodor becomes job #1. These sources can rang pet dander or urine to nicotine or cannabis smoke to mildew or mold to bodily fluids to garbage to very potent cooking smells. Knowing the source will start us in the right direction.

From there, specialized cleaning techniques, equipment, and solutions will neutralize the source of the odor.

For pets and bodily fluids, saturating the affected area with Bio-Modifier solutions will encapsulate malodors with strong counteractants as well as utilize multiple enzymes to literally digest odor causing molecules. After sufficient dwell time, fully and completely rinsing the area with a “Water Claw” (a very powerful tool that directly injects final cleaning solutions and very hot water) will help ensure complete elimination of the source.

Masking an odor is done by increasing a pleasant odor to forcibly cover-up an existing malodor.  This will do nothing in eliminating the malodor, but might make your dirty socks smell like flowers for a few minutes!  Odor Neutralization is to eliminate or make the odors imperceptible on a molecular level through the use of direct counteractants.

For smoke, cooking smells, and more airborne malodors, not only do we need to specifically clean and treat the carpet, but deep cleaning, treating, and sealing walls and ceilings and all hard surfaces will most likely become a part of our plan.  Sticky residues will accumulate on interior building surfaces and will continually release malodors.

First we need to clean all hard surfaces, walls, ceilings, fixtures, carpet, and upholstery with a cleaning solution specifically designed to work on a molecular level to neutralize and deodorize. Next we will utilize ‘Thermal-fogging’ technology which is a heat activated odor counteractant that disperses a “cleaning fog” throughout the affected area, allowing every single tiny crack and nook ‘n cranny, to be penetrated with a powerful odor counteractant. Finally, we clean up! Doing a final washing of all surfaces will help ensure proper elimination of the malodor.

We can think of very few things that are more frustrating to deal with than sewage in your home. Whether it is a simple toilet overflow or it is a full-blown back up of your septic system or sewer system, we’ve got you covered!

The Process

First, identify the source and look into stopping the flow of water or sewage. If a toilet is backing up, shut the water valve off at the base of the toilet and for Pete’s Sake stop using the toilet! If it is a floor drain backing up, stop all water flowing into the drain system of your house or apartment. This means do not use a shower in the next room, do not use the faucet in the kit, do not allow any more water from any source to go down a drain – anywhere!!

Next, Call us. Our 24-7 technicians will be able to respond to your emergency at your request. That was easy, wasn’t it?

Of course, it will be a little more complicated than that; however, in the end, we want to best serve you by responding quickly, communicating well, and working effectively to clean and restore any emergency you have.

“Its a dirty job, but somebody’s gotta do it!”

Clean-up for this type of emergency will require our technicians to be completely protected and safe from the grossly contaminated Category 3 water.  Removal and disposal of some building materials and flooring will mostly likely be necessary, and they will also be using very effective anti-microbial solutions to ensure a complete and proper clean-up of the site.

Water Categories

Water damage in general, sewage or not, is classified not only be overall ‘wetness’, which is the “class” of water, but also the type of contaminated water. This is called the category of water.

Category 1 water is from a clean source like a broken water supply line or faucet. If not treated quickly, this water can turn into category 2 or 3, depending on length of time, temperature, and contact with surrounding materials and contaminants.

Category 3 water is grossly contaminated and could cause severe illness if ingested. You should avoid any and all contact with this category of water. Examples include flooding from rivers or streams, water from beyond the toilet trap, water from the toilet containing feces, or standing water that has begun to support microbial growth. The water may contain untreated sewage, harsh chemicals, and microbes.

Real Estate Sales

Get top dollar for your home! There are countless reasons to keep up the exterior of our home, but one profitable one is that we believe when presenting your home for sale, after having its exterior properly and completely cleaned, will bring more money to you than a dark and dingy old home completely covered in dirt, soil, and mildew… Its kind of a no-brainer!

Multi-Family Investment Property

Multi-family properties can be amazing investments, creating cash flow and excellent rates of return for their owners or ownership groups. However, turning over a unit for a new occupant can be an extremely stressful and difficult process. If you have ever had to move out a ‘dirty’ tenant and move in a new tenant all within a week or less, you know what I mean!

Clean it to preserve it!

We can take care of property exteriors as well as patios pavers, concrete sidewalks, or blacktop and specialty driveways. Letting mildew and soil accumulate can be damaging as well as hazardous for everyday foot traffic. Cleaning exterior surfaces regularly will also help preserve the value in your property.

Sometimes your house or exterior just needs a good ‘old scrubbing.  Call us to discuss how we can make your home ‘sparkle’ once again.  Build-up of dust, dirt, and soil can collect on all of the grooves and surface of your home’s exterior.  There is nothing worse than when you clean off your home after 10 years of dirt and grime, and find many areas are faded and permanently stained!  Regular cleaning of your exterior will help keep surfaces looking good and maintained condition.

After police have completed documenting and processing a crime scene, death or accident scene, the cleaning and restoration process may need to begin. This is a very unfortunate and stressful situation for family and loved ones; however, bio hazardous materials like blood and bodily fluids must be cleaned and disposed of properly to assure the safety of all involved.

Specialty Services

Crime scene and trauma clean-up requires a very specific and process based clean-up that our technicians are trained to handle.  Proper clean-up of such a scene can involve: documentation of the affected areas, technicians with appropriate PPE (personal protective equipment), removal and  disposal of porous materials affected with bodily fluids and potential pathogens, cleaning and disinfecting of hard surface materials, and deodorization or odor treatments. Crime scene residues like evidence-gathering chemicals, tear gas, pepper spray, fingerprint powder, etc. will also require specific cleaning solutions and processes.

Blood-borne Pathogens

Bodily fluids, tissues, and other potentially pathogenic substances will be removed and disposed of properly.  Structurally affected areas of a property will also be removed or cleaned and disinfected according to very strict standards.  Many very dangerous health hazards potentially exist with these scenes, and our technicians are trained to identify and use appropriate PPE during clean-up.

Do you have an ERP?

An emergency response plan (ERP) is a cleaning agreement put in place prior to any crime scene or accidental death that may require quick and effective clean-up within your business. There is nothing that can quite explain the chaos and confusion that follows an unexpected death or dramatic personal injury within a workplace. We will work with you to put an agreement in place for the quick and thorough clean up of your business.
