The Process

Each fire restoration job will be unique, our specific equipment and process may vary from time to time, based on what is best for your property.  However, the below steps will apply for most all of our fire restoration jobs.

Calling our Emergency Response Team at 715-231-3500 will get you heading in the right direction!  Don’t wait – call as soon as humanly possible.  Remember time is critical when dealing with fire damaged as well as flooded structures.  Our staff will take you through a short list of questions and will not hang out without determining a plan of action to keep the process moving.

Once our technicians arrive, we will immediately assess any safety concerns your property may pose to our crew as well as to you as occupants.  Structural as well as environmental safety issues may be present.  Next, we will begin documenting the loss for insurance purposes as well as testing for and tracking smoke residue through the structure. We will then make final evaluations and scope of restoration of affected building materials as well as personal contents.

Soot from fires will mix with water vapor in the air and cause corrosion.  This can be limited with the proper application of solvent based anti-corrosion solutions.  However, if not done quickly, corrosion can already occur, permanently damaging any and all metal surfaces.  This would also be the time to begin demo and removal of all unsalvageable building materials and personal property.

Once we have corrosion under control and we’ve pulled out all of the damaged personal items and building materials, we can begin any water damage restoration.  Depending on the extent of water damage, dehumidifiers and large air-movers will be used to start the drying process.

This step is the meat and potatoes of our fire restoration services.  Odor control and deodorization is one of the biggest issue to tackle when dealing with fire damage.  Smoke and soot has a way of getting into absolutely EVERY single crack and crevice within your property.  Because of this, beyond your standard cleaning of non-porous surfaces, we will be utilizing various technologies and techniques to get that ‘fire’ smell gone for good!

  • Thermal Fogging  – this technique vaporizes a liquid deodorizer into a ‘fog’ which has particles as small as .5 microns.  Now you may not know how small that is, but believe me when I tell you, it is ‘teeny-tiny’, and helps get into those cracks and crevices that are affected with soot.
  • Vapor Phase Deodorization – this technique uses various solutions and essential oils (yes that right, essential oils!!!)  in a vapor phase, to interact with malodor molecules, permanently changing their state to reduce and eliminate odors.
  • AFD’s – Air Filtration Devices are a critical aspect to any fire restoration job.  Specific HEPA filters paired with charcoal based filters will pull VOC’s from the air, reducing malodors with every hour they run!
  • Sealing – This is one of the 4 principals of odor control and typically required for complete and full elimination of that ‘fire’ smell.  After cleaning and utilizing our odor control techniques, sealing surfaces and building materials affected by fire, is a very, very effective final step.

This step is where most fire restoration companies start to ‘trail-off’, saying they can do “minor construction” to help you fully restore your property.  But not with Boston Cleaning & Restoration!  We have fully licensed in-house general contractors available “at the ready”!  To take, for example, a fully ‘gut’ property, from start to finish through the re-construction process.  We have in-house employees who are licensed contractors to begin re-building walls, ceilings, stairways, windows, etc.  Then comes in the plumbers and electricians. Next is sheetrock installation and finishing/painting.  Then flooring and final interior millwork like doors and trim. And before you know it, you have your home or business back!
